Northleach is small town in the Cotswolds that is near the main road of A40 and the Fosse Way, the roman road linking Exeter in Devon with Lincoln. During the medieval period, Northleach became an important town in the wool trade. The grandeur of the Church of St Peter and St Paul is evidence of this. The church is sometimes referred to as the Cathedral of the Cotswolds and parts of it date back to the 12th century, but most of it was built later. Northleach has an interesting Mechanical Music museum, which includes a collection of victorian self-playing musical instrument. There are also 3 pubs and a small market square. Although Northleach is not as well known as some of the other Cotswold villages, it is a good base to enjoy an authentic Cotswolds holiday. Hotels in Northleach include the The Wheatsheaf Inn |
